Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery invites artists who are residents of Australia to submit entries for the Outback Art Prize. Awards will be given to works which significantly address the theme of the Australian outback.

The Pro Hart Outback Art Prize was renamed in acknowledgement of Pro and his family’s contribution to the arts and support of Broken Hill. The prize is generously supported by Mrs Raylee J Hart and Broken Hill City Council. 

The Pro Hart Outback Art Prize is a nationally recognised works on paper awards. Since it began in 1994, this annual acquisitive prize and exhibition consistently attracts a high standard of entries from artists across the country, that reflect the spirit, beauty and diversity of the Australian outback.

The Pro Hart Outback Art Prize consists of two acquisitive awards and a cash encouragement award worth a total of $18,300. Acquisitions from the Prize will enter Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery's nationally recognised collection which includes works on paper by Rick Amor, Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd, Noel Counihan, Liz Cumming, George Gittoes, Barbara Hanrahan, Mandy Martin, Clifton Pugh, Lloyd Rees, Gary Shead and Tim Storrier.

Prizes

Prizes on offer are:

  • Acquisitive award to the value of $20,000 to be acquired by the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery.
  • Acquisitive award to the value of $2,000 to be acquired by the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery
  • Encouragement Award of $1,000
