The annual Art Awards are supported by local individuals, businesses and industry, and return with a prize pool of $40,000. There are four sections of entry including, Easel Paintings, Works on Paper, Three Dimensional & Fibre Works and Digital Works. Since the addition of the Digital Works section in 2014, the Art Awards have attracted a wide range of entries from established, emerging and amateur artists from across the country. The event has become one of Queensland’s most prestigious regional art events, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum has been the custodian of the Art Awards since 1993, and the Awards were renamed in 2007 in recognition of Rio Tinto’s generous support of the Art Awards and arts in Queensland, which continues to this day
