John Fries Award

The John Fries Award is one of the most coveted awards for emerging contemporary artists across Australia and New Zealand. Now in its 10th year, the Award attracts entries from early career artists across diverse disciplines and locations, from Aboriginal artists in remote and regional art centres, to experimental artists in cities and major towns across Australia. It aims to encompass the multiplicity of contemporary practice for visual artists working in all media - from painting to conceptual art to performance and photography - and represents an exciting opportunity for emerging and early career visual artists to kickstart the next phase of their professional art career.

The non-aquisitive Art Award is open to all Australian and New Zealand citizens or residents and offers a $10,000 cash prize plus first hand experience working with a curator, industry leading judges and exposure through promotion and a 6 week exhibition at UNSW Galleries at UNSW Art & Design – the award’s presenting partner for the third year running.

Venue: The John Fries Award will be held at Galleries UNSW, Paddington, Sydney
