The Government of Victoria, through Arts Victoria, is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced artists or project teams for a significant new public art work/project that will celebrate the strength, richness and diversity of Indigenous culture in Victoria. The aims of the Commission have been guided by the work of the Premier’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee and the Victoria 175 Advisory Group1. It is intended that the work/project should address one or more of these aims:
  • Promote understanding of the role of Indigenous culture in Victoria
  • Acknowledge the contribution of Indigenous culture to Victoria’s identity
  • Promote the career and profile of Victorian Indigenous artists
  • Reflect the achievements of Indigenous Victorians
  • Respond to the memories, ideas or stories of Indigenous people, around the state of Victoria.
This Commission invites the broadest possible interpretation of the term ‘public art’. It is open to all art forms that may occur in a public setting. The work/project proposed may be (but is not limited to):
  • Permanent 2D or 3D
  • Temporary
  • New media art forms work such as projection, digital art works or websites
  • Ephemeral art works such as environmental art or performance
  • Any other form of public art.
