The Bridport Art Prize has been established by Bridport Innovations Inc. to promote the beauty and diversity of the Bridport region and also to foster the creative talents within the local and indeed the worldwide arts community.
The Bridport Art Prize is a new, non-acquisitive art prize with a total of $10,000 in cash prizes, certainly a great incentive to get creative and submit an entry before the closing date of 15 December 2026. To be eligible for entry, the artist must depict, represent, interpret or signify an aspect of the township of Bridport, Tasmania - its natural surrounds, beaches, rivers, forests, flora, fauna, people or places of interest.
For the purposes of this exhibition, the area of the township is considered to be a 20km radius from the centre of the town of Bridport. The Grand Prize of $5000 will be awarded to the work the judges believe has both the highest artistic merit and best exemplifies “Aspects of Bridport” - the theme of this inaugural prize.
A special Judges’ Award of $3000 will be given to an artist the judges consider shows extraordinary talent or potential. And of course, the all-important People’s Choice Award of $2000 will be for the work that receives the most votes during the exhibition.
The Bridport Art Prize welcomes entries from artists worldwide who are 16 or over at the time of entry. The prize is open to painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, printmaking and mixed media, excluding photography and video. (There are possibly some plans afoot in the future to cater for our digital and film creators - so stay tuned.)
