The Montalto Sculpture Prize was conceived by John & Wendy Mitchell to promote sculpture and encourage artists. The first Prize was held in 2003.

The Montalto Sculpture Prize is a $50,000 acquisitive prize available to artists working in any medium. Finalists for the Prize are exhibited at Montalto from mid February until late April each year. Sculptures are sited throughout the property, on the lawns, amongst gardens, wetlands and on water. The winner of the Prize is announced at the opening of the exhibition.

The Pennon Hill People's Choice Award is a non-acquisitive award of $1000, made to the artist whose sculpture received the most public votes throughout the exhibition. It is announced at the end of the exhibition.
