The 2024 Stanthorpe Art Prize is now open for entries.

Calling all artists! The prestigious Stanthorpe Art Prize is back, and it’s time to showcase your talent to the world. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a budding newcomer, this is your chance to shine on the artistic stage. We are thrilled to announce that submissions are now open for this renowned competition.

  • Entries open now

  • Entries close Friday 31 May 2024 (midnight Queensland time, GMT +10)

  • Artists informed by 17 July

  • Delivery of artworks to the gallery: 17-23 August

  • Judging 4-5 September (judges make their final selections in person at the gallery)

  • Opening Night & winners announced Friday 6 September 2024

  • Exhibition open 7 September - 10 November

  • Artists collect unsold artworks 12-18 November 2024

$50,000 in prizes

The most outstanding artwork of the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024 will receive the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024 Award of $16,000.

  • In addition, the Judges will award six category prizes of $4,000 each.

  • The Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024 Award winner will be selected from one of these six category winners, therefore they will be awarded the $16000 prize plus the $4000 category prize.

  • The six categories are:

    • 2D - Painting / drawing: includes watercolour, gouache, oil, acrylic, tempera, encaustic, dye, ink, calligraphy, charcoal, monoprint, graphite, silverpoint, chalk, pastel, oil stick etc.

    • 2D - Print media: includes etching, lithography, intaglio, woodblock, linocut, engraving, printed fabric, screen printing, rubbing, digital or film-based photography

    • 2D - Mixed / crafted: includes woven fibre, embroidery, felting, wearable art (e.g., scarf), mixedmedia, collage, cut paper, naturally occurring and manufactured materials

    • 3D - Modelled / carved: includes additive methods such as clay, porcelain, concrete, wax, ceramics; and subtractive methods, which include carving wood, stone, concrete, and other materials

    • 3D - Cast: functional and sculptural e.g., glass, metal, slip moulding in clay

    • 3D - Composite / assemblage: including jewellery, welded and worked metal, found objects, incorporating mechanics, light and sound

  • Other awards include 

    • $2,000 Changeover Team Award

    • $1,500 Local Artist Award (residing within 100 kilometres of Stanthorpe)

    • $1,500 Young Artist Award

    • $5,000 Public Choice Award

  • With the exception of the Public Choice award, winners will be announced on The Awards Night. The Public Choice will be announced after the exhibition closes.
