The Bluethumb Art Prize for 2022 is Now Open

Australia’s biggest art prize has just launched and entries are now open here.

The 2022 Bluethumb Art Prize will be judged by award-winning Australian artists; including Del Kathryn Barton, Tamara Dean, Blak Douglas, Kathrin Longhurst, and Loribelle Spirovski.

Bluethumb can now safely say that it has Australia’s biggest prize pool with a total of $250,000.

Open to all, artists from across the country are invited to upload their best works to Bluethumb for the opportunity to be considered for a prize. This art will also be available for purchase. Australian artists will be able to showcase their best work to not just win a prize, but also be discovered.

Entries are open from June 16 to September 5.

“Last year heralded the greatest number of entries ever for the Bluethumb art prize, now it’s the biggest prize money as well. I just thought it’s Bluethumb’s 10th anniversary. Let’s go for broke and really celebrate with our artists. You only live once.” Says Bluethumb CEO Edward Hartley.

The finalist artwork with the highest overall score from our expert Judging Panel will win the top cash prize of $150,000. This will be the Overall Winner.

Awards will be presented across important art categories including abstract, landscape, portrait, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, still life, photography, digital, and sculpture with a prize sum of $10,000 in each category.

Bluethumb also invites the public to choose what they think is prizeworthy with The People’s Choice award. Here the public can pick up to 5 of their favourite entries for the chance to win an artwork up to $2000 in value. The artist who claims the People’s Choice Award will be presented with their own $10,000 cash prize.

Acclaimed artist and 2021 Bluethumb Art Prize winner Loribelle Spirovski says, “The Bluethumb Art Prize has been going from strength to strength.”

This year she is even returning as a judge, “Being on the panel this year with artists whom I have looked up to for a long time is another milestone and I can’t wait to see the selection of works submitted for this year’s prize.”
