I spent about an hour doing all the universal joints (a job that should have taken 5 minutes) and, on that machine, there are 6-8 (IIRC) of those shaft covers that to release. The driveline guard removal is different (easier) however. For this driveline, there are three plastic "pins" that hold the bell housing and the inner guard shaft in place on the inner ring. To remove the pins, use a screwdriver and turn the pins 90 degrees, as shown below, and then gently pry the pins straight out.After looking at the picture more it looks like there is two flats on top below the threads. The hole thing should just unscrew. Tech manual shows a cover at top, but doesn't look like photo. In the meantime, look for a snap ring in the housing which would prevent the pto shaft bearing from coming out the rear end. With my tractor the shaft comes out with the rear cover plate.
